Dr. Jennie M. Bennett

I am a native Houstonian. I received several degrees including my doctorate from the University of Houston. I taught elementary, middle, undergraduate, and graduate students and was the lead researcher for a Mathematics Project for the State of Louisiana.

I am a past President of the Benjamin Banneker Association which is a national mathematics organization. I recently served on the Board of Directors for the World's largest mathematics organization, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and I was the First-Vice President for the second largest mathematics organization.

I am the co-author of elementary and middle school math textbooks. I have written journal articles and contributed chapters in various books. I speak all over the country and in Canada.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996. I was featured in the first ad campaign for MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. As a result of that commercial, MD Anderson earned a Clio Award for the very first "Making Cancer History" ad campaign.

I have helped numerous women who have been stricken with breast cancer. I instruct them on how to educate themselves about their diagnosis, treatment options, how to have hope and receive healing after breast cancer.

I have been featured in the Texas Monthly Magazine and in flight magazines for Continental Airlines for MD Anderson. My picture is currently on the wall in the new Ambulatory Building at MD Anderson for which I participated in the groundbreaking ceremony. MD Anderson just released a new book for newly diagnosed cancer patients in which I am featured.

I am a member of Windsor Village United Methodist Church. I speak nationally and internationally about breast cancer. I have participated in the Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure since I was diagnosed with breast cancer. God and I team up to bless the lives of so many people through my non-profit organization, Reconstruction of a Survivor. The 501(c)3 organization provides support and training to include education, how to set SMART goals in life, diet, exercise, career and job interview skills, grooming (working on your image while going through breast cancer), and how to live beyond a diagnosis of breast cancer.
